Rebuilding After Divorce

Written by Vicki Tillman, M.A. and published on 21-May-2009.

There are few things as painful as divorce. When "the two shall be as one" are no longer one, it is as if each person loses part of him- or herself. Your task after divorce is to rebuild your life, step by step.

Allow yourself time to mourn. Grieving over the loss is not simply something you feel like doing — it is an important step in the healing process.

Shore up your relationship with God. He promised to heal the broken hearted. Take time each day to work on your most important relationship, even though you may not feel like it.

Develop supportive friendships. It is vital to reach out for fellowship from family, church, friends, and support groups. Do not go through this time alone.

Redefine who you are. You will need a new self-image. Start with defining who you are in God and work from there.

This is a tough time, but you can take steps that will help you to cope.

Take the next step. Schedule a consultation.
