What does the Bible say about Emotions? by Erin Worden, LPCMH

Whether you’re a Christian or not, I would like to challenge you to consider looking into scripture as a tool for emotional help. The Bible not only speaks to all kinds of human emotions but can also teach about how to cope with these emotions. As a believer in the Bible as the spoken word of God, I have, at times, experienced the Bible as a book that can speak to my heart when no-one else could. Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double –edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

So grab that Bible laying around in your house, or open up the Bible on your phone, and look up the emotions below that best fit your struggle. I hope that some of the verses below might speak to you in a way that no-one else can.

Anger/Desire for revenge: James 1:19-20, Romans 12:21, Romans 12:19, Prov 10:12

Anxiety/Fear: Isaiah 41:10, Psalm 55:22, Hebrew 13:6, Jeremiah 29:11

Exhaustion/defeat: Psalm 138:7, Psalm 46:1, Galatians, Deut 31:8

Loneliness/Abandonment: Psalm 27:10, Jeremiah 1:5, Romans 5:8, 2 Cor. 4:9, John 10:14, Luke 12:7
